ADDRESS: 1280 Bard Rd., Bard, California 92222
Lots of 2’s in this zip code. My initial visit to the Bard California post office was in 2004. My parents headed south for the winter and I decided to visit. Since I’m from the Chicago Area, it was nice to escape the cold winter.
Thanks dad for stopping and taking my picture of the Bard California post office. If I remember correctly we also visited the Imperial Medjool Date farm. They have everything date related such as: Date Shakes, Dried Dates, Date gift baskets, Date Trail mix. I think I had the shake. Yum! Just another interesting fact for those of you interested in the local are.
Thanks,
David W. Gates Jr.

Update February 2014
As I’m editing and re-visiting each article, I’ve noticed how far I’m come in the years since I started photographing post offices.
The Bard post office is one example. I only have the two images of this building. I don’t even remember heading inside of this one to see if there was a dedication plaque or other interesting artifacts.

I grew up in Bard. My family had a PO Box at this office. Albeit it used to be at a different location half mile down the road and in the old Bard Store building which no longer stands. Regards.

I attended 2nd thru 4th grade (1955-59) at the Bard Elementary School. At the time the Nelson’s owned an operated the only grocery store/gas station. Mr. Nelson ran the store and Mrs. Nelson managed the Post Office which was located within the store. The store was located approx. 50 yards from the school. My stepfather, Fred Rodgers, was the principal. The Nelson’s had three sons, Denny, Jerry and David. The school was closed and all the students were transferred to the San Pasqual Unified School District.
