They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well I’ll try to make this one shorter than a thousand. This is the only photograph I have of this post office and here is why.
While I was hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2007, we were approaching a road crossing and one of hikers I was with, mentioned a friend was going to pick him up. Knowing there was possibility going to be a ride waiting to take us into town we sort of all stuck around this particular hiker. As it turns out we were able to get a ride to the gas station and a ride back to the trail. Since this hiker we were with and his friend were kinda in a rush, I ran as close to the post office to take this picture in a hurry.
See the mentality I had when I was hiking, is that when I’m offered a ride I tried to make it as easy as possible for the person providing me that ride. So this was one instance that the driver was actually kinda in a rush so I did not want to push my luck so to speak, so I got back in the car with the other hiker and we headed back to the trail. We ate in the parking lot of the trail head near the road crossing.
Since I was waiting for my sandwich to be made in the gas station I figured I could get a quick photo before we had to head back to the trail. So I was only able to get this one photo of the Catawba Post Office. So that is the story behind my Catawba photo. Not quite a thousand words but you get the idea.
