Talk about small town post office? Well here’s one for ya! Smack dab in the middle of Jackson is where it’s at. I think this is someone’s home so I tried to be discrete when I was photographing. I was trying not to be that creepy paparazzi guy peaking inside people’s windows trying to catch people off guard. That is the reason for the street view of this photo.

I read somewhere that when the post office was growing in the earl turn of the century the post office was often times in people’s homes. This most often occurs in small out-of-the-way towns. I’m guessing Jackson Montana just never grew big enough to build its own stand alone post office building. I’m also guessing but have not confirmed that this must also be the postmasters house. Very cool, I can only imagine the neighborhood conversations that have occurred over the years in this nice quiet small town post office.

Helena Montana Main Post Office

Ok, so getting here was a bit tricky. Maybe its just me but the streets in this section of town are mostly one way. So finding this one was kinda of pain, as I wasn’t quite sure where to turn and once I passed the right street, I found myself down another one-way. I kept saying to myself, if you just keep at it, eventually you’ll get there. Yes, I do talk to myself, strange I know but you should see some of the strange or eccentric people I meet on these nice long drives.

There has to be an older main post office than this one? Does anyone out there know? This seems to modern to for the area, I’ll have to check if there is a historical society in Helena. But if you live here would you happen to know if there is an original old post office building in Helena?

Heart Butte Montana Post Office

Another late evening and lots of miles later I ended my trip in Montana at the Heart Butte Post Office. It was Heart Butte and then back to West Glacier to return the rental car. You should have seen the look on the lady’s face when she calculated the miles I drove. Good thing I opted for the unlimited miles. I really should have kept track, because this trip was a non-stop driving fest. But who wins? you my loyal readers get a nice presentation of just a few of the Montana post offices. I hope you’re enjoying the show.

Several months ago I started to post my Montana collection but for some reason never finished. As I was going through my collection I noticed I had a few left to post. So the remainder of this month, I’ll dedicate to what I have remaining for Montana.
