ADDRESS: 8267 Main St, Ellicott City, MD 21043
ARTIST: Peter DeAnna
TITLE: Building of Ellicott Mills and Landscape of Ellicott City.
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (murals)
STATUS: The Ellicott City former post office is no longer an active postal facility. It is home to the Howard County Visitors center. The murals still reside here and can be viewed by interested members of the public. One mural resides on the west side of the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door. The other two reside on the east side of the lobby on either side of the large window.
YEAR: 1940
It’s hard to believe it has been almost a years since I visited this one. Apparently, I must have been in a hurry as I did not video. The two short videos I did uncover were crappy.
I do remember talking to the gentlemen staffing the visitor center. We had a wonderful discussion and I explained my mission to visit all the murals in all fifty states. While we were talking some other visitors entered and I chatted up the guest. The couple had been to the Bethesda post office and had mentioned that mural while were talking.
The two on the east side of the lobby are difficult to photograph. The large window between the two panels made it difficult to see. Had I been thinking more cleaning I would have had the staff close the blinds. That may have given me a better photograph. So note to self, if and when you get the chance to visit again. Maybe on a cloudy day, I could get a better photograph of the two on the east wall.
Thanks,
