ADDRESS: 102 E. Myrtle St., Elizabeth, Illinois 61028
Today was daylight savings and I wanted to take advantage of the extra hour. So I packed up my girlfriend and I decided to head to the historic town of Galena IL. Along the way on route 20 we passed the town of Elizabeth. I decided since it was a smaller town it wouldn’t be difficult to find the post office.
It is a smaller 60’s style right off route 20. Even though it was a Sunday, there were still large trucks driving down this section of town. I had to wait for a few large trucks to pass before I could get an unobstructed photo of the front of the building.
I was happy to find a dedication plaque in the lobby. The Elizabeth post office was dedicated in 1961 while John F. Kennedy was president. J. Edward Day was the postmaster and H. W. Brawley was the deputy postmaster general.
The town was for the most part pretty quite. No one else visited the post office while we were there. I took my pictures and enjoyed the lobby for a few minutes and continued home from our Galena outing.
During this trip I was able to get a few other post offices pictures. Stay tuned as I highlight the other post offices we visited during our Galena Trip.
