“Between the 1850s and 1911, a livery stable and stone works occupied the north ed of this site, with the John Custer family home on the south corner. The present building was constructed for the US Post Office and various government offices, after the city of Winchester purchased the building in 1967, and a new city fire hall and police department was constructed at the rear in 1969, Winchester City Hall moved here in 1970”.

A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF AN OLD P.O. BLDG. REPURPOSE. IT WAS BUILT BY THE ALGERON BLAIR CO. MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA IN 1914, WITH A LOW BID CONTRACT, $45,219.00. MR. C. E. MORRELL WAS THE CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT FOR THE GOVERNMENT, TO RECORD THE DAY TO DAY CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS AND PHOTOS OF SAME. THE BLDG. WAS OF AN AREA OF 3,806 SQ. FT. TIME FOR COMPLETION, SEPT. 1915
