ADDRESS: 400 N. Wood Ave., Ste A, Linden, New Jersey 07036
ARTIST: Sahl Swarz
TITLE: Industry
MEDIUM: Terra-cotta (relief)
STATUS: The Linden post office is still an active, operating facility, and the relief can be viewed by interested members of the public. It resides in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1934
All the images I viewed of the Linden post office prior to my visit, indicated it being an extremely busy area. I anticipated waiting around a long time to get unobstructed images of the exterior of this one. You could imagine my surprise when a car directly in front of the building moved as I approached. The situation was perfect and I was able to fire off a few shots with no cars or people in the photographs. Score!
I hurried inside to get the relief images and was on my way. This particular situation made my day, as I dreaded waiting around in such a busy area. It was nice to see everyone wearing a mask, but I just didn’t want to be around a lot of people, after all, we are still in an pandemic.
