ADDRESS: 125 W Broadway St, Monticello, Indiana 47960
ARTIST: Marguerite Zorach
TITLE: Hay Making
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The Monticello post office is still an active, operating facility and the mural can be viewed by interested members of the pubic. It resides on the wall in the lobby above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1939
Another fine example of a post office mural. I had the chance to stop in this one during a recent road trip to Indianapolis. It was early on a Saturday morning and it appears the sun rises behind and to the right of the building. Note to self, if I get the chance to stop here again, it would be best to visit in the afternoon when the sun is shining on the front of the building.
The exterior images you see here are darker and not particularly my favorite.
