ADDRESS: 204 S. Webster Ave., Omro, Wisconsin 54963
The Omro, WI Post Office is another one of my early photograph’s. For some reason I parked right in front. I guess I wanted to prove I had actually visited this post office. Notice it was another nice day for a drive and I was in the convertible.
The Omro, WI Post Office is a great example of artwork that was displayed on the outside of the building. There is a great mural, with a horse and buggy at this post office. I’ve been unable to find out any more about it. If any of my readers have more information about the artist, the title or anything else I’d love to hear from you.
I always remember enjoying this every time I passed by it.
Thanks,
David W. Gates Jr.

Hi David,
I just stumbled upon your post above. I can give you some history on the post office mural in Omro if you’d like. The mural was painted in the summer of 1997 by a group of area artists, some from Omro and some from neighboring Oshkosh. The leaders created the mural for the centennial of 100 years of rural free delivery that year (which you will see in the newspaper that the boy is holding). The mural project in Omro lasted about five years in the 1990’s with the last one being painted a little bit later in 2006 inside the new fire station on the west end of town. My mother and another local artist headed these initiatives and because of that, I was able to help out even though I was only in high school. The post office mural was especially poignant for me, as I was allowed to design and paint the horse as a memorial to my own horse who had just passed away the previous year. The mural itself was adapted from an actual historical photograph of a man and boy delivering the mail and the sepia tones were chosen to mimic an old fashioned photo. Finally, as a last minute added touch, it was decided to create a border around the whole image to make it look like a postage stamp.
I hope that fills in the gaps for you a little bit! 🙂

Wow, thanks for the additional background. I had no idea. I initially photographed this back in 2003, so it is a real treat to hear from you and to learn moreover about it.
I really like the stamps boarder around the mural. I had forgotten about this. We used a similar design element for the cover of my first Wisconsin Mural Guidebook.
Thanks again for the information
