Welcome to part 5 of a 10 part series featuring the Saint Louis main post office. For the past 4 days we have been showcasing the murals inside this mammoth building. Since there are over 9 murals I’ve decided to highlight them each individually. Today’s mural is titled “George Rogers Clark and Daniel Boone” and was done by Mitchell Sporin.
The first group in this panel portrays the defense of St. Louis against the British attack of 1780. In the center group, the portrait of George Rogers Clark with his men symbolize the Lewis and Clark Expedition. This expedition is credited with the effective defense of St. Louis.
The last group in the panel depicts the migration of Daniel Boon and his family from Kentucky into Missouri. The center figure in this group is a portrait of Daniel Boon.
Tune in tomorrow for the next mural titled “Pre-Civil War”
