ADDRESS: 30 Chatham Road., Short Hills, New Jersey 07078
ARTIST: Ernest Lawson
TITLE: Short Hills Landscape
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas (mural)
STATUS: The Short Hills post office is still an active, operating facility, however, the mural has been reported missing, lost or destroyed. It previously resided in the lobby on the wall above the postmaster’s door.
YEAR: 1937
Another stop where the lobby was closed. I wan’t disappointed, as I knew the mural from this one was not in the lobby. It has been reported missing, lost or destroyed. I’ll need to do some further research on the status of this one.
I did however, enjoy the live music that was being played across the street at the restaurant. I did a short video of the exterior of the building while the band was playing. I’ll post that to the YouTube channel when I get a chance.
That cornerstone was a bit of challenge to photograph, but I think it turned out ok. I briefly though about carving hedge trimmers with me during my visits, but I’m not so sure the postal service would appreciate me cutting their bushes, but maybe they wouldn’t mind. IDK.
