ADDRESS: 209 S State St, Dover, DE 19901
ARTIST: William Davidson White
TITLE: Harvest, Spring and Summers
MEDIUM: Unconfirmed (murals) multiple panels
STATUS: The former Dover post office is no longer an, operating postal facility. It is currently occupied by the Wesley United Methodist Church, and used as their educational center. The murals are reported to still be in the building. However, during my most recent road trip in 2021, I was not able to verify.
YEAR: 1937
I arrived on a Saturday morning looking for this building. Tuns out there was a local comic-con event going on. Most of the streets in the downtown area were blocked off. I only found this out after speaking to one of the volunteers directing traffic around the area.
So I had to park a few blocks away and walk to this one. That’s ok, felt good to out of the car and stretch. Sadly, I did not stick around for the event, I need post offices and a lot more miles to dive before I can rest.
The building now houses the Wesley United Methodist Church Education center and was not open. Rumor has it that the mural is still in the building, but I was not able to confirm this on this trip.
I consider any Delaware stops icing on the cake for this trip so I did not investigate it prior to my trip or this visit. What a beautiful stately building. I love it.
