Reflecting on this one now in 2012 I’m unsure if it’s still an active post office. I attempted to look this one up on the USPS website but I did not find it. Anyone out there know the address or fate of this one? I’m currently pulling some old photos I have archived or in older albums.
My visit to this one was in 2007 as I was hiking the Appalachian Trail. I actually spotted this one as I was crossing the street nearby. I was kind of in a hurry to keep moving so I didn’t stay long. If I remember correctly, it was a weekend and I don’t remember it being open.
Anyway here it is, excuse the large beard, when you’re thru-hiking most hikers don’t shave the entire hike. It is just sort of hiker thing to do.
Thanks,
David W. Gates Jr.

Hi David
Actually, the W. Hartford Post Office location was severely damaged in flooding from Tropical Storm Irene 2 yrs ago. The General Store, also damaged, pulled itself together quickly and turned a back room into the new W. Hartford Post Office…very small with pizza available for purchase from his pizza counter.
I’m pulling together the Hazard Mitigation Plan for the town and would love to include your photo of the old Post Office as one of the graphics. Would you give permission to do that?

Hi Peg,
Absolutely, you may use the photo. Thank you very much for this bit of history and information. The only thing I ask is that you credit the website site http://www.postofficefreak.com in the plan or caption of the photo.
Thanks again and take care,
David
